Advancing FronTier Research In the Arts and hUManities

Advancing FronTier Research In the Arts and hUManities (ATRIUM) is a HORIZON Europe project in response to the call HORIZON-INFRA-2023-SERV-01-02, bringing together leading European research infrastructures DARIAH, ARIADNE, CLARIN and OPERAS.

It aims to provide humanities scholars improved access to a rich portfolio of state-of-the-art services, and other resources, and to enhance interoperability between data and services in accordance with the FAIR principles – making data more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Arts and Humanities is a very diverse field, covering a range of disciplines and communities of practice that have different epistemological and methodological foundations. ATRIUM will tackle this heterogeneity by

  • consolidating, further developing and facilitating access to existing services for five different data types (text, image, 3D, sound, geospatial), covering all phases of the research data lifecycle (creating, processing, analyzing, preserving, providing access to and reusing)
  • improving access to resources in the Arts and Humanities by harmonizing and enhancing the quality of metadata in existing catalogues and repositories
  • implementing specific research workflows in form of processing pipelines combining multiple services, showcasing these through a set of demonstrators, and describing them as step-by-step guides in the SSH Open Marketplace.

ATRIUM will also deliver a curriculum of training materials and run several training events to ensure the uptake of the newly provided functionality and tooling.

The team at ACDH-CH is involved in multiple work packages. Especially, it is leading the work package 3 on “Findability of Data and Tools” dealing with metadata harmonisation and enrichment in the heterogeneous landscape as well as questions of data interoperability through use of standards. It also contributes to work package 6 on “Service Interoperability” and work package 7 providing training to the community and developing training curricula.
