The research unit Digital Humanities Research&Infrastructure is dedicated to advancing data-driven scholarship in the humanities. Our mission is to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, ensure the accessibility and sustainability of digital resources, and promote the application of digital methods and standards in the humanities. We collaborate closely with the other three Research Units of the institute, as well as our national and international peers, in alignment with the activities of European research infrastructures, in particular CLARIN-ERIC and DARIAH-EU.
We apply and develop a broad spectrum of DH methods and tools across the entire project lifecycle – from digitization of analogue materials, through processing and analysis to preservation of valuable research data for the future. To this end, we either utilize off-the-shelf solutions and community best practices or develop bespoke web-based solutions whenever needed. This approach aims to balance the trade-off between the stability of robust infrastructure and the pursuit of dynamic, open-ended innovation.
We are committed to creating and preserving sustainable, high-quality resources that can be reused beyond their original scope and purpose. This implies a focus on modelling humanities data using established formats and standards, most prominently TEI for encoding textual resources and the CIDOC CRM family of ontologies for building knowledge graphs. Our work is grounded in the paradigm of Open Science and adheres to the FAIR Principles.
In today’s rapidly changing research landscape, the continuous acquisition of new skills is of paramount importance. We therefore develop a wide range of educational offers and pursue outreach activities to facilitate the efficient transfer of relevant skills and know-how.
