MAMEMS – Mount Athos in Medieval Eastern Mediterranean Society: Contextualizing the History of a Monastic Republic (ca. 850–1550)

MAMEMS constitutes the first comprehensive examination of the monastic communities of Mount Athos as independent actors in medieval Eastern Mediterranean society. OpenAtlas, a database software developed at the ACDH-CH, is used as a backend for recording, processing, and structuring the research data. The web application based on OpenAtlas makes it possible to explore the information freely accessible online. In addition, mapping, actor network visualizations, and results of the study are presented.
