TibSchol, led by Pascale Hugon, is an ERC-funded research project hosted by the Institute for the Cultural and Intellectual History of Asia (IKGA) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. The ACDH-CH is an associated research partner.
The project explores the formative phase of Tibetan scholasticism (11th–13th centuries) through digital means. Leveraging the APIS (Austrian Prosopographical Information System) and TEI-encoded source texts, TibSchol aims to uncover the intellectual networks, scholastic corpus, and analytical techniques employed by Tibetan scholars during this transformative era.
The adaptation of the APIS data model for TibSchol involves tailoring the system to accommodate the unique characteristics of Tibetan scholastic texts, their genesis and transmission. Implemented by the DHRI Team Prosopography and Networks, this customization enables comprehensive analysis of Tibetan scholastic data within an instance of APIS which serves as a centralized hub for accessing and analyzing scholastic data extracted from various sources. Moreover, team members of the ACDH-CH assist the team in encoding the primary texts in TEI/XML.
