Weronika Zmiejewski studied social anthropology at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg and Central Asian Studies at Humboldt University in Berlin. She received her PhD from Friedrich Schiller University in Jena with a dissertation on Georgian migrant women in Greece. Since September 2024, she has been working as a social anthropologist at the Phonogrammarchiv on the FWF (Esprit) funded postdoctoral project: “Uncomfortable Ancestors – Challenging Commemoration: Central Asia in the Phonogrammarchiv’s Viennese WWII Recordings. (ESP 575-G).” Her project is part of the broader research initiative “Austrian Research on Central Asia and the Caucasus in the Nazi Period” (AUROCC) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
