Within phenoSAT-α – for the assessment of phenology by leaf-area-index (LAI) seasonality by SPOT5 satellite imagery – multivariate relationships between spectral and spatial indices and forest structure are derived. Spectral and textural signatures are linked to forest stand properties by simulating reflectance and LAI values for detailed reconstructed 3D plots. For each reflectance signature the suitability for the description of LAI-dynamics in heterogeneous stands is tested. This is performed as a simulation for the upcoming Sentinel-2 mission, where project results can be applied for high frequency area-wide phenology mapping.
