The origins of the cultural phenomenon of music and the biologically based abilities which enable us to produce and perceive it as such – musicality – as well as their constructive interrelations, especially during ontogeny, are comparatively investigated in an interdisciplinary research project, focusing on a central, yet poorly understood aspect of music – timbre.
