In my project I investigate the tension between the repression and after-effects of National Socialism, and in particular anti-Semitism, in public radio in Austria from the immediate post-war period to the Waldheim Affair.
An analysis of radio and television sources offers the opportunity to focus on what is said “casually”, but also on the non-linguistic/discursive level: the tone of voice, the sounds and the use (and selection) of music. Such a perspective on previously little-researched sources seems particularly relevant in the context of previous research on the characteristics of anti-Semitism in the Second Republic.
