There is a fascinating paradox in that we can see life in abstract images. In a drawing of just a few lines, we immediately recognize a human figure walking. A moving quadrangle is seen as a crawling caterpillar. For centuries, investigating and representing the movements of animals and humans has been an important scientific and artistic project. Different types of abstract representations have been developed to capture and analyse animate movements. The authors in this book investigate the construction, perception, use and impact of images of animate movement in a variety of disciplines and contexts. | ||
