From the outset, the search for the document is essential there, as an essential means of access to knowledge of various circles: merchants, jurists, civil servants foremost among whom Ibn al-Suqāʿī, a major witness to the interest shown by Jacqueline Sublet in the Mamluk era. Biography and historiography go very quickly, in this itinerary, to be based on a certainty: the history by the document cannot ignore the search for the name, this name which holds the very secret of beings and things.
