Description
Summary:eng: This dissertation deals mainly with a philological and textlinguistically oriented study of the novel 'The waterfalls of Slunj' by Heimito von Doderer. The Austrian novelist Doderer (1896-1966), who was called 'Austriae Poeta Austriacissimus' by his friend and scholar Friedrich Torberg, in fact uses frequently Austrian words and phrases. The thesis starts with questioning what 'Austrian German' is like. In the main part of the thesis emphasis is put on text structure, language, word formation, neologism, diminutives, use of foreign language and dialects, direct speech, orthography, etc. in order to find out what makes this novel a typically 'Austrian' novel. In chapter 7 a comprehensive glossary of typical Austrian expressions and also words created by Doderer, which can be found in this novel, is given. The appendix consists of an interview with Friedrich Hansen-Loeve, a contemporary of Doderer, and copies of the manuscript of the novel 'The Waterfalls of Slunji'.
