520 | |a The notion that like prefers the company of like is characteristic of the love and friendship relationships in medieval literature. For the first time, this study takes a cultural historical approach to examine the staging of similarity in four late courtly romances, where this elemental principle of relationship is at the center of the narrative and determines the structure of action as well as the constellation of figures.
