Hierzu zählen gesellschaftliche Prozesse ebenso wie Verlust-, Erhaltungs-, Auswahl- und Wiedergewinnungsprozesse. Während Untersuchungen zur kulturellen Überlieferung meist in Einzeldiskursen verhaftet bleiben, erarbeitet dieser Band eine interdisziplinäre Sicht auf die Langzeitzugänglichkeit von Informationen und präsentiert Beiträge aus Informatik, Bibliotheks- und Archivwesen, Kulturwissenschaft, Philologien und Restaurierungspraxis sowie Museumswesen.
