Die Texte handeln von Liebeshoffnung und Euphorie, von der Sehnsucht nach Vereinigung, aber auch von Enttäuschung und dem Gefühl, auf ewig verlassen und vom Glück getrennt zu sein. Die vorliegende Gesamtausgabe der Lieder basiert auf dem 2009 im Verlag ‚Historische Uitgeverij‘ in Groningen erschienenen Band Hadewijch: Liederen. Sie präsentiert die mittelniederländischen Texte in einer kritischen Edition nach der ältesten Handschrift, zusammen mit einem Stellenkommentar sowie einer von dem Musikwissenschaftler Louis Peter Grijp (†) erstellten Rekonstruktionen der Melodien. Eine ausführliche Einleitung erhellt die geistigen und sozialen Kontexte der Lieder. Neu hinzu kommt eine neuhochdeutsche Übersetzung. Dem deutschen Publikum liegt das lyrische Werk von Hadewijch damit erstmals in einer kompletten zweisprachigen Ausgabe vor.
