Before the internship
What is an ACDH-CH internship?
What is an ACDH-CH internship?
The ACDH-CH internship is a volunteer programme. It offers the possibility to enhance your professional and personal research interests. ACDH-CH volunteers work only for a specific time period and in their own interest for the purpose of training and further education at the ÖAW. There is no employment relationship. Volunteers are not entitled to payment, they can organise their working hours freely and can also refuse to work. The initiative for the collaboration comes from the volunteers. All given work tasks must serve the training of the volunteer.
What added value does an internship have?
What added value does an internship have?
Internships give volunteers the opportunity to gain practical work experiences. In addition, they gain insights into the workings of an academic research institute and into the innovative aspects of (digital) humanities disciplines.
During an internship, volunteers receive information about open approaches in research (cf. FAIR principles) and can familiarise themselves with working in collaborative research environments. Volunteers will get an insight into the tools, services and data used at the ACDH-CH. The individual support helps the volunteers to build networks and enables them to get in touch with digital humanity research.
During the internship, volunteers have the opportunity to start or carry on working on their own project(s) under the supervision and with the support of ACDH-CH researchers.
Does the internship take place in person or online?
Does the internship take place in person or online?
Internships are carried out in physical presence at the ACDH-CH workplace, that is to say you will need to be present in the office during your internship. In most projects it is possible to work a certain amount of time also from home. There are no online internships at the moment.
Is an internship financially remunerated?
Is an internship financially remunerated?
Unfortunately, volunteers cannot be financially remunerated for their work. The ACDH-CH only offers volunteer agreements that are not time-bound and its purpose is for education only. We cannot offer financial compensation, but we are happy to award academic credits if an external internship is part of their university curriculum.

What is a MTR programme?
The Meet The Researchers programme (MTR) takes place each week during your internship. It starts on your first day of the internship with the Welcome Session, followed by a TEI training. There are one or two weekly MTR meetings.
The individual sessions enable volunteers to come into direct contact with our experts, exchange ideas with them and gain insights into various projects and activities of the ACDH-CH. The MTR sessions end with a final presentation by the volunteers as part of a joint ACDH-CH Research Lunch.
Participation in most of the sessions and the final research lunch is a prerequisite for receiving a volunteer certificate for the internship.
