This is the first comprehensive study of Greek language ordinary chants (Gloria/Doxa, Credo/Pisteuo, Sanctus/Hagios and Agnus Dei/Amnos tu theu) in Western manuscripts from the 9th to the 14th centuries. For the first time, this book presents an in-depth analysis of these chants and their historical, linguistic and theological-liturgical environment from a Byzantine perspective. The new approach enables the author to refute numerous (and largely contradictory) theories on the origin and development of the Missa Graeca and provides new answers to old questions.

For the first time, this book presents an in-depth analysis of these chants and their historical, linguistic and theological-liturgical environment from a Byzantine perspective. The new approach enables the author to refute numerous (and largely contradictory) theories on the origin and development of the Missa Graeca and provides new answers to old questions.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Description based on publisher supplied metadata and other sources.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Gregorian chants</subfield><subfield code="x">History and criticism.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Music</subfield><subfield code="z">Western countries</subfield><subfield code="x">Byzantine influences.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Church music</subfield><subfield code="x">Catholic Church</subfield><subfield code="y">500-1400.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Church music</subfield><subfield code="x">Orthodox Eastern Church</subfield><subfield code="y">500-1400.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="z">90-04-51307-8</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Byzantina Australiensia Series</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="906" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BOOK</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="ADM" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="b">2024-07-13 05:13:51 Europe/Vienna</subfield><subfield code="f">system</subfield><subfield code="c">marc21</subfield><subfield code="a">2024-05-05 12:01:32 Europe/Vienna</subfield><subfield code="g">false</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="AVE" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">Brill</subfield><subfield code="P">EBA Brill All</subfield><subfield code="x">https://eu02.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/uresolver/43ACC_OEAW/openurl?u.ignore_date_coverage=true&portfolio_pid=5355562910004498&Force_direct=true</subfield><subfield code="Z">5355562910004498</subfield><subfield code="b">Available</subfield><subfield code="8">5355562910004498</subfield></datafield></record></collection>
