Description
Summary:Having a job is not always a guarantee of protection from poverty, for oneself and one's family. This depends on the one hand on the level of income acquired through work, on the other hand on the family situation of the worker. While a low income from work does not always lead to poverty in terms of consumption, if the worker can also access other income within the family, vice versa an average income may not be sufficient if it is the only one in a family in which there are different components. Low or intermittent income from work, on the one hand, high incidence of single-income families, especially if there are more children, on the other, are among the main causes of poverty despite work. Above all, the second phenomenon explains why Italy is among the European countries with a relatively high percentage of poor family-based workers, from which the high incidence of child poverty also derives.
