Soil Science - Emerging Technologies, Global Perspectives and Applications describes recent research that illustrates the universal importance of understanding soil and soil's relationship to environmental stewardship and food security. Research supporting emerging technologies provides abilities to discern key soil attributes that influence soil behavior and development, understand soil biology to create sustainable land management, and sequester carbon to partially negate climate change. Soil science is an interdisciplinary field of inquiry that must consider resource allocation and social needs to foster a culture that protects and secures not only soil health but also water and air quality. Chapters in this book reflect the diversity of modern thinking within the discipline of soil science, but collectively illustrate that global sustainability of food, the environment, and biological diversity are critical to future generations.
1. Leveraging Soil Microbes with Good Farming Practices for Higher Soil Carbon Sequestration (SCS) and Farm Productivity 52 -- 2. Dissolved Organic Matter and Its Ultraviolet Absorbance at 254 Nm in Different Compartments of Three Forested Sites 18 -- 3. An Emerging Global Understanding of Arsenic in Rice (Oryza sativa) and Agronomic Practices Supportive of Reducing Arsenic Accumulation 32 -- 4. Precision Agriculture for Sustainable Soil and Crop Management 174 -- 5. Machine Learning, Compositional and Fractal Models to Diagnose Soil Quality and Plant Nutrition 257 -- 6. Applications of Thermo-TDR Sensors for Soil Physical Measurements 222 -- 7. The "Groundwater Benefit Zone", Proposals, Contributions and New Scientific Issues 260 -- 10. Soil Degradation and the Human Condition, Including the Pandemic, Interactions, Causes, Impacts, Control Measures and Likely Future Prospects 130 -- 11. Scale-up of Mycorrhizal-Assisted Phytoremediation System from Technology Readiness Level 6 (Relevant Environment) to 7 (Operational Environment): Cost-benefits within a Circular Economy Context 201 -- 12. Generation of Mud Volcanic Systems Sourced in Dehydrated Serpentospheric Mantle: A 'Deep-to-Seep' Model for the Zechstein Salines-Kupferschiefer Cu-Ag Deposits 52 -- 13.
