Schildermans, Hans, author. Experiments in Decolonizing the University : towards an ecology of study / Hans Schildermans. Experiments in Decolonizing the University New York : Bloomsbury Academic, 2021. 1 online resource (208 pages). text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier Radical politics and education Description based on print version record. "The book addresses the need to reconsider the relation between university and society, a debate which has been discussed for centuries from the Middle Ages to Kant, Humboldt and Newman. Hans Schildermans builds on the philosophy and theory of higher education, drawing on the work of John Dewey, Donna Haraway, William James, Bruno Latour, Martin Savransky, Isabelle Stengers and Alfred North Whitehead. The theoretical discussion is undertaken in relation to case studies of study practices of the Palestinian experimental university 'Campus in Camps'. The book avoids the two positions that are traditionally defended: the idea of the autonomous university on the one hand, and the capitalized university on the other hand. Schildermans emphases the importance of study practices as a site of resistance against current neoliberal and capitalist reforms of the university. The book will appeal to activists, critical academics and those interested in the fate of higher education today"-- Provided by publisher. Includes bibliographical references and index. 1. Introduction : inhabiting the ruins of excellence -- Part 1. Inside the studiers' workshop : the invention of the university and the challenge of the sciences. 2.
