Urban green spaces / edited by Rui Alexandre Castanho, José Cabezas Fernández. ©2022 London : IntechOpen, [2022] 1 online resource (182 pages) text txt rdacontent computer c rdamedia online resource cr rdacarrier Description based on publisher supplied metadata and other sources. Urban planning intends to promote urban living conditions through reasonable land use, always maintaining harmony between urban planning and nature. The cities are the focus of growth within states; their industrialization and growth in housing large populations worldwide have caused a disordered and chaotic development. The objective of planning is to correct the urban chaos and prevent it from happening again due to inadequate planning, thus improving inhabitants' quality of life. Contextually, urban green spaces are a pivotal piece of this puzzle. In fact, the existence of abundant vegetation in cities has a universal appeal that persists beyond temporal, spatial, and cultural divisions, incorporating itself within the concept of environmental quality and leading to a better quality of life. Thereby, it is essential to assess and analyze the design, function, and role of urban green spaces in today's and tomorrow's cities. 1. Introductory Chapter: Urban Green Spaces - An Opening Framework -- 2. Urban Green Spaces Prospects and Retrospect's -- 3. Green Space Association with Mental Health and Cognitive Development -- 4. Functionality and Value of Green Infrastructure in Metropolitan Sprawl: What Is the City's Future? A Case Study of the Bogotá-Sabana Northern Region -- 5. Parameters for Designing Functional and Quality Pocket Open Spaces in High-Density Cities -- 6. Green Stormwater Infrastructure in the Context of the European Green Deal Policy -- 7. Nature-Based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation in Scholar and Social Buildings: Concepts and Pilot Solutions for Portugal and Spain -- 8. Green Roofs Influence on Stormwater Quantity and Quality: A Review -- 9. Nature-Based Solutions Using LECA LWA to Increase Urban Sustainability and Support Stormwater Management.
