In Mytho-poetics at Work Rengenier Rittersma offers an account of the posthumous fame of the Count of Egmont (1522-1568), whose public decapitation triggered the Dutch revolt. Drawing from numerous European sources - pamphlets, chronicles, and literature - this monograph tries to unravel why and how the alleged freedom fighter became an icon in European thought. It demonstrates that Egmont unfurled an evocative power over several centuries and cultural regions, as his name could be deliberately instrumentalized by different groups of people in order to corroborate their own confessional and political programs. In addition, this book offers the very first systematic study of the phenomenon of mytho-genesis and provides a conceptual model that can be applied to analogous historical myths. In addition, this book offers the very first systematic study of the phenomenon of mytho-genesis and provides a conceptual model that can be applied to analogous historical myths.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="588" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Description based on print version record and CIP data provided by publisher; resource not viewed.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Statesmen</subfield><subfield code="z">Netherlands</subfield><subfield code="v">Biography.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="650" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Myth</subfield><subfield code="x">Political aspects</subfield><subfield code="x">History.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="651" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Netherlands</subfield><subfield code="x">History</subfield><subfield code="y">Charles V, 1506-1555.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Egmont, Lamoraal,</subfield><subfield code="c">Graaf van,</subfield><subfield code="d">1522-1568</subfield><subfield code="x">Influence.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="600" ind1="1" ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Egmont, Lamoraal,</subfield><subfield code="c">Graaf van,</subfield><subfield code="d">1522-1568</subfield><subfield code="x">In literature.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="776" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="z">90-04-27083-3</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="830" ind1=" " ind2="0"><subfield code="a">Brill's Studies in Intellectual History</subfield><subfield code="v">266.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="906" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">BOOK</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="ADM" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="b">2023-03-23 05:41:20 Europe/Vienna</subfield><subfield code="f">system</subfield><subfield code="c">marc21</subfield><subfield code="a">2018-01-13 17:16:47 Europe/Vienna</subfield><subfield code="g">false</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="AVE" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="i">Brill</subfield><subfield code="P">EBA Brill All</subfield><subfield code="x">https://eu02.alma.exlibrisgroup.com/view/uresolver/43ACC_OEAW/openurl?u.ignore_date_coverage=true&portfolio_pid=5343090290004498&Force_direct=true</subfield><subfield code="Z">5343090290004498</subfield><subfield code="b">Available</subfield><subfield code="8">5343090290004498</subfield></datafield></record></collection> |
