The purpose of this book is to highlight the relevance of the international Open Access (OA) movement which aims to support and promote strategies for the dissemination of scientific research products with the support of network technologies and OA policies. . The Institutional Repositories (IR) OA will be presented within the framework of: some guidelines, research evaluation mechanisms, intellectual property issues, long-term preservation, Data and Process Management Plan and Trusted Digital Repositories. The work will also present a survey on a sample of 23 digital repositories (national and international) in support of communication and free access to online research content. Based on this survey, a ToolKit will be presented which could be useful for programming and monitoring different functions of an IR. Subsequently, the reader will be presented with a metadata scheme for describing the products of scientific research in IR, taking into consideration theGuidelines for the creation and management of metadata in Institutional Repositories (CRUI, 2012) and Linked Open Data-enabled Bibliographical Data Recommendations (Subirats, Zeng, 2015). The metadata enabled as LOD data will play the key role in the qualification of the semantic profile of the properties of the metadata in question and, consequently, of the information resources they represent, as well as in the enhancement of semantic interoperability and in the fostering of collaborative dynamics of the research contents. network at national and international level, strengthening the effectiveness and efficiency of the research itself.
