Description based on publisher supplied metadata and other sources.
"Several epidemiological studies have demonstrated that oxidative stress is associated with a number of health disorders, including cardiovascular malfunction, certain types of cancer, diabetes mellitus, many other auto-immune diseases, and even ageing. The body possesses multiple mechanisms to counteract oxidative stress, which employ antioxidant compounds that are either naturally generated in situ (endogenous antioxidants) or externally supplied through food (exogenous antioxidants). These antioxidants are able to counteract oxidative stress, thanks to their ability to neutralize excess free radicals and protect the cellular lipids, proteins, and DNA from molecular damage. Exogenous antioxidants from the diet are of increasing interest because of their beneficial role in maintaining good health and in preventing chronic diseases. Indeed, a diet rich in dietary antioxidants, especially from fruits and vegetables, has been correlated with a successful prevention and lower incidence of several degenerative pathologies, including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. This Special Issue of Nutrients welcomes the submission of manuscripts, either describing original research or reviewing scientific literature, examining the role of diets rich in antioxidant compounds in the prevention of chronic diseases and the characteristics of the antioxidants included in such diets."--Amazon.co.uk.

This Special Issue of Nutrients welcomes the submission of manuscripts, either describing original research or reviewing scientific literature, examining the role of diets rich in antioxidant compounds in the prevention of chronic diseases and the characteristics of the antioxidants included in such diets."--Amazon.co.uk.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="504" ind1=" " ind2=" "><subfield code="a">Includes bibliographical references.</subfield></datafield><datafield tag="505" ind1="0" ind2=" "><subfield code="a">About the Special Issue Editors vii -- Preface to "Antioxidants in Health and Disease"ix -- Miao Long, Yi Liu, Yu Cao, Nan Wang, Meng Dang and Jianbin He Proanthocyanidins Attenuation of Chronic Lead-Induced Liver Oxidative Damage in Kunming Mice via the Nrf2/ARE Pathway doi: 10.3390/nu8100656 1 -- Davide Grassi, Richard Draijer, Casper Schalkwijk, Giovambattista Desideri, Anatolia D'Angeli, Sandro Francavilla, Theo Mulder and Claudio Ferri Black Tea Increases Circulating Endothelial Progenitor Cells and Improves Flow Mediated Dilatation Counteracting Deleterious Effects from a Fat Load in Hypertensive Patients: A Randomized Controlled Study doi: 10.3390/nu8110727 18 -- Nino Cristiano Chilelli, Eugenio Ragazzi, Romina Valentini, Chiara Cosma, Stefania Ferraresso, Annunziata Lapolla and Giovanni Sartore Curcumin and Boswellia serrata Modulate the Glyco-Oxidative Status and Lipo-Oxidation in Master Athletes doi: 10.3390/nu8110745 29 -- Wei Zhu, Yan Wu, Yi-Fang Meng, Qian Xing, Jian-Jun Tao and Jiong Lu Fish Consumption and Age-Related Macular Degeneration Incidence: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review of Prospective Cohort Studies doi: 10.3390/nu8110743 39 -- Shu-Fang Xia, Guo-Wei Le, Peng Wang, Yu-Yu Qiu, Yu-Yu Jiang and Xue Tang Regressive Effect of Myricetin on Hepatic Steatosis in Mice Fed a High-Fat Diet doi: 10.3390/nu8120799 53 -- Richard Draijer, Ferdi A. van Dorsten, Yvonne E.
