Es así que se hace necesario el cotejo con la historia clínica del paciente, por la cambiante evolución de la enfermedad y por la concurrencia de otras patologías o cuadro de fondo que pudiera enmascarar el verdadero cuadro patológico. Se entiende entonces la importancia de considerar todas las circunstancias que rodean al enfermo, como los antecedentes patológicos (datos obtenidos del historial) los que sirven para una correcta interpretación del cuadro que aqueja al enfermo. Los exámenes de laboratorio son pruebas basadas en el estudio de muestras de fluidos y tejidos corporales permiten determinar estados biológicos y bioquímicos.
