In occasione delle manifestazioni per gli ottant'anni dell'Università degli Studi di Firenze ciascuna Facoltà dell'Ateneo fiorentino è stata invitata dal Senato Accademico a designare una personalità di alto profilo internazionale cui conferire la laurea honoris causa.
