ger: Das überwunden geglaubte Religiöse in Europa kehrt wieder und damit auch alternative anthropologische und subjekttheoretische Konzepte. Das säkular-liberale Ideal eines radikal autonomen, völlig leidfreien, sich selbst setzenden Subjekts trifft auf ein in Beziehung stehenden Subjekt, das als irrational und abhängig abgelehnt wird. Insbesondere die verstärkte Präsenz von Muslimen, problematische Allianzen zwischen politischen und religiösen Kräften und eine gleichzeitige Zurückweisung von Religion im öffentlich-politischen Raum fordern heraus. <br />Basierend auf einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit den Analysen Talal Asads zum Säkularen, dessen Schatten, politischen Formierungen und den darin verborgenen exklusivistischen Mechanismen entwickelt die vorliegende Dissertation die Konturen einer "Politischen Theologie der Verwundbarkeit", um so den möglichen Beitrag von Religion und Theologie zum Gemeinwohl als Kernprinzip des Politischen näher zu bestimmen. Leitend ist dabei die These, dass das Unbehagen Europas an Religion zurückzuführen ist auf eine Angst vor der Fragilität menschlicher Existenz, wie sie jedoch gerade religiöse Traditionen reflektieren.

eng: The religious in Europe is still alive - or has returned - and thus alternative anthropological concepts and theories of the human subject have reappeared. The secular-liberal ideal of a radically autonomous, self-sufficient subject that is free from any suffering meets a subject that regards itself to be in relation, but is now considered to be irrational and totally dependent. Especially the growing presence of Muslims, problematic alliances between political and religious forces and a simultaneous rejection of religion in the public-political sphere challenge theology, political studies and society. <br />Based on a critical evaluation of Talal Asad's analysis of the secular, its shadows, political formations and exclusivist patterns, the dissertation develops a "Political Theology of Vulnerability" which is able to describe the possible contribution of religion and theology to the common good, the core principle of the political. The whole project is guided by the thesis that Europe's religious trouble is actually based on a deep fear of fragility and vulnerability, which religions however confront and deal with.
