ger: Durch politische Unterdrückung und ökonomische Unterentwicklung in den von Kurden bewohnten Gebieten der nahöstlichen Staaten sind in den letzten dreißig Jahren enorme Bevölkerungsbewegungen (Vertreibungen, erzwungene Migrationen und Flüchtlingsbewegungen)ausgelöst worden. Heute leben mehr als eine Million KurdInnen in Europa (ca. 50 000 in Österreich). Soziale und politische Netzwerke wie auch kulturelle und wissenschaftliche Organisationen prägen das Leben der KurdInnen in Europa und haben überdies einen Einfluß auf die Situation in den Herkunftsländern. Diese Studie untersucht die Tauglichkeit der theoretischen Ansätze von Internationaler Migration, Diaspora und Transnationalismus um staatenlose Ethnien zu untersuchen. Nach einem Überblick über kurdische Kommunitäten in Europa werden im 1.theoretischen Teil die theoretischen Ansätze zu Migration genauer analysiert. Die Migration der KurdInnen aus der Türkei, als eine Form der 'forced migration' wurde an zwei Fallbeispielen (GAP-Projekt, i.e. "Entwicklungsprojekt" und Migrationsentscheidungen auf Haushaltsebene) dargestellt. Im 2. theoretischen Teil werden die theoretischen Ansätze der Diasporaforschung diskutiert, weiter zu theoretisierende Felder aufgezeigt und anhand der Fallstudie "Kurdische Literatur in der Diaspora" exemplarisch dargestellt. Im 3. theoretischen Teil werden die Vorteile und Lücken der theoretischen Ansätze von Transnationalismus - Deterritorialisierung, ethnoscapes - aufgezeigt und am Beispiel Neuer Medien von KurdInnen in Europa genauer überprüft. All die unterschiedlichen Ansätze sind gleichsam wichtig für die Untersuchung nicht-staatlicher Ethnien. Am gewinnbringendsten scheint die Kombination aller in einem mulitsited approach.

eng: Since the 1970's political pressure and economic deprivation in the Kurdish regions in the Middle East have caused enormous population movements (forced migration, displacements and refugee movements). Today more than one million Kurds are living in Europe (about 50 000 in Austria). Social and political networks as well as cultural and scientific organisations shape the life of the Kurds in Europe and have an important influence on the situation in the countries of origin. This study examines the adequacy and usefulness of the approaches developed in the Theories about International Migration, Diaspora and Transnationalism in order to study non-state peoples. Following an introduction into the Kurdish communities in Europa, part I deals with Migration Studies. Referring to two case studies (GAP-Project, i.e. 'development project'; forms of migration on household level) the 'migration of Kurds' from Turkey as a forced migration is analysed. In Part II approaches of Diaspora Studies are discussed. In addition, a number of theoretical fields (e.g. violence, political culture), which should be further elaborated are highlighted. The case study 'Kurdish Literature in Diaspora' demonstrates a possible applicability of the latter. In Part III theoretical approaches of the research of Transnationalism are evaluated and the advantages - thinking deterritorialized, in spaces and ethnoscapes, examination of roots and routes - and gaps of these approaches are analysed. In conclusion, all these theories/ theoretical approaches with their different focuses are important for studying non-state ethnies in the countries of residence. Most profitable, however, proves a combination of all these focuses in a multi-faceted research approach.
