eng: The Austrian variety of the German language exhibits most of its elements within the lexicon. Starting with a general discussion on the state of art description of the characteristics of Austrian German based on a pluricentric approach, the representation of the lexicon in current dictionaries of Standard German focusing on the markers used to distinguish the diasystematic architecture of the language is examined. The development of the 'Oesterreichisches Woerterbuch' during its 50 years of existence is described. Entries marked as 'Austrian' from a collection of non-Austrian dictionaries are compared to each other and with some editions of the 'Oesterreichisches Woerterbuch'. Finally, an internet based questionnaire to validate information concerning usage of words is presented and some results are shown to prove the reliability of the data gathered through this new method.
