Description
Summary:eng: In this research the author compares - by means of the European Value Study 1990 - the attitudes towards matrimony in two Western European countries that have some cultural characteristics in common, but nevertheless belong to different European regions. These attitudes are examinated with regard to their historical development and their roots in the past. Subject, starting point and criterium of integration of this research is the concrete, in the last decades and until shortly generally widespread and accepted form of matrimony in both countries. The aims of the study are the following: 1) To investigate the change of attitudes toward this form of matrimony and its actual acceptance in Austria and Spain within the framework of family research, by this a comparison between the two countries is established; 2) To look at this specific form of matrimony from a historical perspective: to find out the manifested pace and the different rhythms of change as well as the general conditions and the cultural value structure on which this attitude towards matrimony is based; 3) To examine with respect to the selected subject the possibilities and limits of a certain source of information - the European Value Study - which was developed in order to measure the cultural change in Europe as well as later on in other countries. The historical research whose characteristic is in the fact that it takes into account the diachronic perspective is also conceived as an interdisciplinary study: The comparison between the two countries implies the knowledge of the sociological research done in the field of the change of values and its theoretical approaches. The identified attitudes towards matrimony are also put into connection with concrete modes of behavior proved by demographically studies.
