ger: Die ritterlichen Prokuratoren des römischen Ägypten waren neben dem praefectus Aegypti die bedeutendsten Verwaltungsbeamten dieser Provinz. Mit der Hilfe von Papyri, Inschriften und antiker Autoren wird in der hier vorgestellten Arbeit anhand von Beispielen der Aufgabenbereich dieser Ämter vorgestellt wie auch deren Büro, Angestellte und Mitarbeiter. Es wird die zeitliche Einordnung der Funktionen erläutert, deren Entwicklung, ihre Bedeutung im Laufe der Jahre, deren eventuelles Weiterleben in byzantinischer Zeit bzw. deren Abschaffung. Die Herkunft des Namens des Amtes wird ebenso erklärt. Am Ende eines jeden Kapitels, das jeweils einem Prokurator gewidmet ist, ist eine Prosopographie hinzugefügt, in der alle Repräsentanten aufgelistet und mit deren Lebenslauf, so weit er sich rekonstruieren läßt, vorgestellt werden. Folgende Prokuratoren werden behandelt: procurator Neaspoleos, procurator ad Mercurium, pros tais episkepsesin, procurator usiacus, procurator Alexandreae Pelusi P[araetoni ?], procurator Alexandriae, procurator ludi familiae gladiatoriae Caesaris Alexandreae ad Aegyptum, procurator supra Museum und procurator a Museo. Eine Aktualisierung der Prosopographie zum Amt des dioketes und des archiereus beendet das Buch.

eng: The thesis deals with the equestrian procurators of Roman Egypt, who - the praefectus Aegypti apart - are the most important officials of the administration of this province. With the help of papyri, inscriptions and ancient historians the duties of these offices are introduced on the basis of examples as well as their office and their staff and collaborators. The time and the duration of the office is listed, why they had developed (from a Ptolemaic office or from the necessity), their situation over the years (extension of duties or loss of significance), their continuation in Byzantine time or respectively their end. The derivation and the development of the name is explained as well. At the end of every chapter dedicated to a procurator a prosopography is appended where all representatives of the office are listed and introduced. The following procurators are covered: procurator Neaspoleos, procurator ad Mercurium, pros tais episkepsesin, procurator usiacus, procurator Alexandreae Pelusi P[araetoni ?], procurator Alexandriae, procurator ludi familiae gladiatoriae Caesaris Alexandreae ad Aegyptum, procurator supra Museum and procurator a Museo. Of the dioketes and the archiereus an update of their prosopography finishes off the book.
