ger: In der Arbeit werden die geschichtliche Entwicklung sowie die sozioökonomischen Auswirkungen der Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen von Quebec untersucht. Das Ziel ist es festzustellen, ob die politische Instabilität die Wirtschaftsentwicklung Quebecs beeinflusst hat. Dazu wird eine mögliche Korrelation zwischen politischen Ereignissen, die politische Instabilität verursachen könnten, und der Entwicklung von Wirtschaftsdaten untersucht. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wird die Entstehung der Unabhängigkeitsbewegung nachvollzogen, wobei historisch bedingte Unterschiede zwischen Quebec und dem Rest von Kanada, sowie deren Ursachen aufgezeigt werden. Im zweiten Teil wird die Entwicklung der Wirtschaftsdaten von Quebec seit ca. 1960 analysiert. Bruttosozialprodukt, Investitionen, Konsumausgaben, und Arbeitslosenraten werden untersucht und deren Entwicklung mit der von Ontario und dem kanadischen Durchschnitt verglichen. Aufgrund der Wichtigkeit des sprachlichen Aspektes - Quebec ist das einzige (Bundes-)Land Nord-Amerikas, in dem Französisch die erste offizielle Sprache ist - werden sprachökonomische Theorien angewandt um die wirtschaftlichen und demolinguistischen Auswirkungen der Sprachgesetzgebung festzustellen. In der Schlussfolgerung wird zusammengefasst, dass die, durch die Unabhängigkeitsbestrebungen verursachte politische Instabilität, keine langfristigen Auswirkungen auf die sozio-ökonomische Entwicklung Quebecs hatte. Kurzfristig wurden die Wirtschaftsdaten von der Oktoberkrise von 1960 und dem Referendum 1995 negative beeinflusst. Der linguistische Sonderstatus Quebecs, der durch die Sprachgesetzgebung von 1977 weiter akzentuiert wurde, und historisch bedingte Unterschiede zwischen der französisch- sprachigen, katholischen und der englischsprachigen, protestantischen Bevölkerung sind wichtigere Gründe für die Unterschiede zwischen den wirtschaftlichen Entwicklungen in Quebec und jenen in Ontario, bzw. dem Rest von Kanada. eng: In this work the historic development of the separatist movement and the economic and social effects of the separatists' struggle for Quebec's independence are examined. The objective is to determine whether the political instability has had a significant impact on the development of Quebec during the last 35 years. The method of approach is to examine whether there is a correlation between economic indicators and political instability. In the first part the history of French Canadians, from the first settlements to the crucial political events of the 20th century that marked a milestone in the separatists' struggle for an independent Quebec and thus could have caused a high level of political uncertainty are examined. Since this study is based on a time-correlation between political events and changes in socio-economic indicators, special attention is paid to the reception and interpretation of events by historians, the media and opinion leaders. As a next step the development of economic and socio-demographic indicators during the last 40 years is examined. Factors studied include gross domestic product, investment, consumption, and unemployment as well as demographic and demolinguistic indicators. In order to ensure that changes in factors are linked to political instability comparisons with other provinces, notably with Ontario, and other countries are made in the conclusion it will be summarized that a direct relation between separatism and Quebec's long-term economic development cannot be demonstrated by examining macro-economic indicators. However, the October crisis of 1960 and the referendum of 1995 had short-term negative impacts on Quebec's economic development. Other factors such as the French language legislation of 1977, which further accentuated Quebec's special linguistic status in North America and the historical differences between the development of the French, Catholic society and the English, Protestant one better explain the existing differences between Quebec and the rest of Canada.
