Summary:In May 2007 the European Union and ASEAN agreed to launch negotiations on a free trade agreement (FTA), and talks are ongoing on the specific design and membership, with a joint working committee being established. This book identifies the present barriers in the relations between the regions, and aims to make an ASEAN-EU FTA useful as well as understandable to the business sector. It contains the proceedings of a panel discussion organized by the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore, the School of Business, Economics and Law at Göteborg University and the Swedish Business Association of Singapore, on how to make an ASEAN-EU FTA work for European business. The purpose of this book is to encourage an active and constructive exchange of views and ideas between representatives of the Swedish business community in Singapore, government officials and academics.
