Eine besondere Rolle spielt dabei die Akzeptanz der administrativen Ausweisung von Wildnisgebieten durch die Bevölkerung.Gisela Kangler liefert einen neuen Ansatz, um bestehende Missverständnisse und Konflikte in Bezug auf die Naturschutzidee 'Wildnis' einordnen und verstehen zu können. Analysiert werden drei grundlegend unterschiedliche Auffassungen: 'unbekannte Wildnis', 'bestimmte Wildnis' und 'Ökosystem-Wildnis'. Dabei ermöglicht es die wiederentdeckte progressive Kulturphilosophie Ernst Cassirers, die gesellschaftliche Pluralität in ihrer Mannigfaltigkeit in den Blick zu nehmen.
