Um diese Frage aus kultur- und sozialwissenschaftlicher Perspektive zu beleuchten, stellen die Beiträge des Bandes aktuelle grenzüberschreitende Praktiken, Konzepte und Austauschbeziehungen vor. Sie zeigen: Gerade für die hier betrachteten Regionen - vom Nahen Osten und Indien über Süd- bis nach Ostasien - haben Trans*Syndrome eine wichtige Bedeutung. Die kulturelle und wirtschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit dem Rest der Welt führt zu Konflikten in Alltag, Kultur und Politik.
