Sophisticated debate, however, often falls by the wayside. In the mode of a critical cultural studies analysis, Simon Goebel shows which realities talk-show guests and presenters construct about forced migration and refugees. Through this it becomes clear how political talk-show narratives about forced migration are generated in the context of culture, identity, economy, or order and control. From a cultural and media studies perspective, this book offers new stimulus for a critical perspective on this popular television format.

Plasberg, Illner, Will und Co. - Für das Polittalk-Genre ist Flucht ein gutes Thema: kontrovers, mit den richtigen Gästen unterhaltsam und damit ein Garant für Quoten. Eine differenzierte Auseinandersetzung bleibt dabei oft auf der Strecke.Im Sinne kritischer Cultural-Studies-Analysen zeigt Simon Goebel, welche Wirklichkeiten über Flucht und Geflüchtete die Talk-Gäste und Moderator_innen konstruieren. Dabei wird deutlich, wie Polittalks Narrative über Flucht in Kontexten von Kultur, Identität, Ökonomie oder Ordnung und Kontrolle erzeugen.
