Neben der Frage nach der musik- und medienhistoriographischen Relevanz solch ephemerer musikalischer Mediengemische widmen sich die Beiträge den komplexen Verflechtungen zwischen den neu entstandenen Reproduktions- und Übertragungsmedien, dem naturwissenschaftlichen und ästhetischen Denken der Zeit sowie den ökonomischen Entwicklungen. Darüber hinaus werden medienästhetische Strategien beleuchtet, mit denen die neuen technischen Geräte künstlerisch umgedeutet wurden.
