Kürschners Handbuch der Bildenden Künstler records more than 6,700 living visual artists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Besides painting, graphics, sculpture, book art, action and media art, a selection of architecture, photography and craftwork is also represented. The work thus provides a current overview of contemporary art in these countries. The articles contain the following information: name, profession, biographical dates, addresses (including eMail and about 4,100 home pages), galleries representing the artist, information about artistic education and teaching activities, areas of work, genres and techniques used, prizes and awards, the locations of art works, exhibitions, bibliography. In addition the handbook provides information on 2,800 galleries, 1,300 museums and public collections, 650 associations and societies, 300 art schools as well as 90 art journals.
