African Books in Print (ABIP) was founded by Hans M. Zell and is the most authoritative reference and selection tool for African book publishing output. This directory covers material from numerous African countries, written in English, French and a selection of African languages. The 6th edition edited by Cecile Lomer provides full bibliographic details of 31,684 titles in print, from 893 publishers and research institutions with publishing programmes, in 45 African countries, published until the beginning of 2006. In addition, ABIP includes publications from professional organisations, academic unions, university institutions etc. The completely new edition of ABIP cumulates all the publications listed in the quarterly African Book Publishing Record (ABPR) between the beginning of 1992 and the beginning of 2006, plus 1,550 entries not previously listed in either ABIP or ABPR. It contains a directory of publishers with complete details of names, addresses, telephone and fax numbers, eMail addresses and websites (where available), as well as the names and addresses of European and US distributors (where applicable).

African Books in Print, begründet von Hans Zell, ist das wichtigste Buchhandelsverzeichnis für die englisch- und französischsprachige Produktion und dazu in Auswahl für Titel in afrikanischen Sprachen aus einer Vielzahl afrikanischer Länder. Die sechste Ausgabe herausgegeben von Cecile Lomer enthält umfangreiche bibliographische Informationen und Bestellangaben für 31.684 Titel, die in 893 Verlagen und Forschungseinrichtungen in insgesamt 45 Ländern Afrikas bis Anfang 2006 erschienen sind. Darüberhinaus bietet ABIP Veröffentlichungen von Berufsverbänden, akademischen Vereinigungen, Hochschulinstituten etc. Die sechste Neuausgabe von ABIP kumuliert sämtliche Titel, die zwischen Anfang des Jahres 1992 und Anfang 2006 im vierteljährlich erscheinenden African Book Publishing Record (ABPR) aufgeführt wurden. Außerdem sind 1.550 Einträge hinzugekommen, die bisher weder in ABIP noch im ABPR enthalten waren. ABIP bietet ein Verzeichnis aller Verlage mit kompletter Angabe von Namen und Anschrift sowie Telefon- und Faxnummern und, soweit zur Verfügung stehend, E-Mail- und Internetadressen. Ebenfalls enthalten sind zudem, soweit zu ermitteln, Vertriebspartner aus Europa und Nordamerika mit Kontaktadressen.
