Der Erzählstoff von Renaud de Montauban bzw. der Haymonskinder hat sich von Frankreich aus in vielen europäischen Literaturen seit dem hohen Mittelalter verbreitet. 1535 erschien in Simmern der Druck "Die Haymonskinder", die älteste gedruckte hochdeutsche Fassung. Ihr ungenannter Autor ist Johann II. von Simmern. Die Edition macht zum ersten Mal diesen Text wieder zugänglich. Wort- und Sacherklärungen sowie eine Bibliographie ergänzen die Ausgabe. Das Nachwort stellt Entstehung, Verbreitung, Überlieferung und Rezeption des Erzählstoffes in Europa dar und geht auf die Reinhold-Legende als einer daraus entstandenen Erzähl- und Überlieferungstradition ein.
This is the first scholarly edition of the High German prose rendering of the French source text by Renaud de Montauban in the 1535 Simmern version. The anonymous author is Johann II of Simmern. A postface gives detailed information on the origins, dissemination, historical transmission and reception of the narrative material in European art, music and literature.
