Ausgehend von der vorkritischen Interpretation des Esra-Nehemiabuches zeigt der Verfasser in einer detaillierten Analyse der Nehemia-Denkschrift, dass die Formulierung in der ersten Person als Kriterium für die Abgrenzung der verba Neemiae von den Zusätzen späterer Autoren nicht ausreicht. Als älteste Fassung der Denkschrift lässt sich ein kurzer Baubericht isolieren, der stark gewachsen ist. Dies hat wiederum die Abfassung der Geschichte der "Restauration" im Esra-Nehemiabuch veranlasst.
