Sie haben siedlungsgeschichtliche Signifikanz, zeigen Kunstlandschaften an und ermöglichen die Rekonstruktion von Werkstattzusammenhängen. Allerdings verteilt sich das umfangreiche Material auf zahllose Einzelstudien, die sich nicht zuletzt wegen einer Fragmentierung in nationale Forschungsfelder erst nach langem Studium erschließen. Dieses Buch will das ändern und einen schnellen Einstieg ermöglichen. Der Zugang erfolgt über einschlägige Fachbegriffe einerseits und über Abbildungen andererseits. So ist der Band wie ein Fachwörterbuch benutzbar, wenn man Begriffe anschaulich verstehen möchte, oder wie ein Bildlexikon, wenn es darum geht, Bauglieder oder Möbelstücke einzuordnen. Jede Seite bildet einen in sich abgeschlossenen Eintrag. Jedes Lemma wird durch zwei bis vier Abbildungen am äußeren Rand der Seite illustriert, und zwei bibliographische Hinweise vermitteln zur weiterführenden Spezialliteratur. Querverweise auf andere Lemmata und Abbildungen regen dazu an, das Buch den eigenen Interessen folgend kreuz und quer zu lesen. Alternativ kann es auch von vorn nach hinten durchgearbeitet werden und als Lehrbuch dienen. | ||
