Sowohl die Betreuung dieser Schwangerschaften, als auch die Geburtshilfe sehen sich mit speziellen Fragestellungen und Problemen konfrontiert. Dasselbe gilt auch für die Herbeiführung einer Schwangerschaft, wenn die Frauen das 40. Lebensjahr überschritten haben. Nichtdestotrotz gibt es immer mehr werdende Mütter über 40. In diesem Zusammenhang ist mit einer wachsenden Anzahl präexistenter Erkrankungen oder Risikokonstellationen zu rechnen, welche den Schwangerschaftsverlauf negativ beeinflussen können.
