Auf Grundlage umfangreicher korpusbasierter Studien wird gezeigt, dass diachrone Veränderungen im Bereich der Derivationsmorphologie als Konstruktionalisierungs- und Konstruktionswandelprozesse gefasst werden können. Zudem werden methodische Ansätze diskutiert, mit deren Hilfe Wortbildungsmuster nicht nur isoliert betrachtet, sondern vielmehr Interaktions- und Konkurrenzverhältnisse zwischen unterschiedlichen Wortbildungsmodellen empirisch erfasst werden können. Damit eröffnet die Arbeit neue Perspektiven für eine dezidiert empirisch ausgerichtete diachrone Morphologie wie auch für eine konstruktionsgrammatische Theorie des Sprachwandels im Allgemeinen.
