Die Fragmente der Alexandriner zur Ilias werden in dieser Ausgabe erstmals systematisch gesammelt, neu ediert und kommentiert, und zwar – abweichend von allen früheren Editionen – unter Berücksichtigung ihrer überlieferten Form. Die innovative Auffassung der antiken Ekdoseis als Arbeitsexemplare der Alexandriner und die systematische Berücksichtigung der Worterklärungen der D-Scholien machen van Thiels Ausgabe zum Meilenstein der homerischen Philologie und zum unerlässlichen Instrument für überlieferungsgeschichtliche Untersuchungen. Ein umfangreiches Register (ca. 700 Seiten) sammelt und erschließt die behandelten Gegenstände. For the first time, the Alexandrine fragments on the Iliad have been systematically compiled and newly edited with a commentary, and unlike all earlier editions, special attention has been given to their transmitted form. Van Thiel’s innovative view of the ancient Ekdoseis as working copies and his systematic consideration of the D-scholia make this edition an indispensable tool for further studies on the transmission of the Iliad.
