Jh. über das Lateinische als internationaler Lingua franca der Wissenschaft und über die beiden anderen alten Bildungssprachen Griechisch und Hebräisch? In dem vorliegenden Werk wird die zeitgenössische Diskussion über Genealogie und Typologie der drei Sprachen, deren Merkmale und ihre Bewertung, Entlehnung und Purismus sowie Gebrauch und Didaktik von Fremdsprachen aufgearbeitet. Diese Aufarbeitung erfolgt zum einen anhand einer ausführlichen Dokumentation zahlreicher Quellen und Belege und zum anderen mittels einer textnahen Interpretation, welche einen Anschluss der Ergebnisse an weitere Befunde und Fragen der deutschen Sprach- und Kulturgeschichte erlaubt. Auf diese Weise wird eine wichtige Lücke der Germanistik geschlossen und gleichzeitig eine Grundlage für weitere Forschungen geschaffen.
