This volume presents these concepts for the first time alongside Hermanns’s terminology for the analysis of political speech and his contributions to linguistic history. 
520 |a Fritz Hermanns (1940-2007) war ein ungewöhnlich anregender, zentrale Fragen der kulturwissenschaftlichen Linguistik nicht nur stellender, sondern sie auch beantwortender Sprachgelehrter. Für die Hauptaufgabe der Linguistik - nämlich zum Verständnis von Sprache im Gebrauch zu verhelfen - erschien ihm deren erneuerte Anbindung an ihre Ursprünge in Philologie und Hermeneutik unabdingbar. In der unkonventionellen Umsetzung dieser Erkenntnis hat er der germanistischen Linguistik wichtige interdisziplinäre Anschlüsse aufgezeigt sowie innovative theoretische und methodische Konzepte entwickelt: ‚Sprachgeschichte als Mentalitätsgeschichte‘, ‚Linguistische Hermeneutik‘, ‚affektive Lexik‘ sind solche Konzepte, die mit seinem Namen verbunden sind. Dasselbe gilt für zentrale Termini der Analyse politischer Sprache wie ‚brisante Wörter‘, ‚deontische Bedeutung‘, ‚Fahnenwort‘ sowie für erhellende Analysen zu zentralen „brisanten Wörtern“ wie Arbeit, Globalisierung oder Terrorismus. In diesem Band werden anlässlich des fünften Todestages von Fritz Hermanns seine wichtigsten theoretischen und empirischen Beiträge erstmals in gebündelter Form vorgelegt. Der Band bildet damit ein Grundlagenwerk für die moderne kulturwissenschaftliche Linguistik.
