Despite their marginal existence in research, Utopian novels written in the Hellenistic period were very popular in Antiquity and inspired a number of authors in the modern period (Th. Morus, T. Campanella). This book tries to close this gap in specialist literature: the author takes a close look at various utopian writings, however, the book is not only limited to analysis of the writings, it also discusses their philosophical, historical, ethnographical and geographical context. Die in der hellenistischen Zeit entstandenen utopischen Romane fristen in der Forschung eher eine Randexistenz, obwohl sie sich in der Antike großer Beliebtheit erfreut und auch in der Neuzeit viele Autoren (Th. Morus, T. Campanella) inspiriert haben. Diese fachliterarische Lücke will die Studie schließen: Der Verfasser beschäftigt sich mit verschiedenen utopischen Schriften im Detail; jedoch beschränkt sich die Untersuchung keineswegs allein auf deren Analyse, sondern erörtert darüber hinaus ihren philosophischen, religionswissenschaftlichen, historischen, ethnografischen und geografischen Kontext.
