Die lateinische Praefatio fasst die bisherigen Forschungsergebnisse zur Überlieferung dieser Schriften zusammen und erläutert die methodischen Grundlagen der Edition; dem Text selbst sind ein kritischer Apparat (der die Varianten der Überlieferung und alle wichtigen Verbesserungsvorschläge der früheren und des jetzigen Herausgebers aufführt und gegebenenfalls begründet) und ein Testimonien-Apparat (der Julians Zitate aus und Anspielungen auf frühere Literatur, daneben aber auch Zitate aus seinem Text in späterer Literatur, soweit sie für die Textkonstitution wichtig sind, dokumentiert) beigegeben.
