Klopstocks lyrisches Schaffen, Teil fast des gesamten schöpferischen Lebens des Autors und Voraussetzung für sein stärkstes Nachleben, ist im Textband dieser wissenschaftlichen Neuedition vollständig repräsentiert. Gegenüber der alten Ausgabe von Franz Muncker und Jaro Pawel aus dem Jahre 1889 ist der Textbestand um 5 Gedichte vergrößert worden. Bisher nur unvollständig edierte Texte wurden vervollständigt. Die neue Ausgabe enthält weit mehr Parallelisierungen von Früh- und Spätfassungen als die alte. Hauptgrundlage der Neuedition ist Klopstocks letzte Odenausgabe von 1798. Sie diente auch als Leitfaden für die chronologische Anordnung der Gedichte.

this volume of the new critical edition of Klopstock’s Works and Letters contains his complete lyric poetry spanning almost his entire creative life. It was mainly Klopstock’s poetry that was responsible for the sustained and immensely favorable reception of his work after his death. In contrast to the old edition by Franz Muncker and Jaro Pawel from 1889, five additional poems have been included. Texts which were previously only rudimentarily edited have now been completely edited. The new edition contains far more parallelizations of early and late versions than the old edition. The main basis of the new edition is Klopstock’s last edition of odes published in 1798. It also served as guide for the chronological arrangement of the poems.
