Boathouses, built for the protective storage of watercraft, have a centuries old tradition that is archaeologically proven. Used in great numbers in Scandinavia and the North Atlantic even today, boathouses of lengths up to 40 m were widely used between the 1st and 15th century, especially in Norway. They are great focal points in the discussion of naval history, as well as prime indicators of the centres of power along the coastline. Gebäude zur schützenden Unterstellung von Wasserfahrzeugen, die noch heute in großer Zahl in Skandinavien und im Nordatlantik gebräuchlich sind, stehen in einer jahrhundertealten, archäologisch nachweisbaren Tradition. Großbootshäuser mit einer Länge bis 40 m waren im Zeitraum vom 1.–15. Jh. insbesondere in Norwegen weit verbreitet. Sie können zur Bestimmung von Machtzentren entlang der Küste und zur Diskussion der Schifffahrtsgeschichte genutzt werden.
